One little praise to share with you...
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Abby has giardia. It's caused by a parasite in her intestines. She has no symptoms, as we assume she has had the parasite a long time. But for our sake, she needs to be treated so the parasite is gone. Her prescription had to be compounded because of how young she is. We started the prescription last Wednesday and she HATED it. She would scream and throw a fit every time we needed to give her a dose (3 times a day). Now we should have recognized right away that something was wrong, but Abby is our drama queen. She can throw a fit over anything. But by Friday, her reaction was really bothering Brian. He decided to taste the medicine and discovered it tasted awful. It actually burned. So he began making a few phone calls trying to figure out if the prescription could be flavored. He called a compounding pharmacy we have used in the past and was telling them about it when they made a comment that the dosage seemed very strong for such a small child. So Brian called our pediatrician and we learned that the first pharmacy had mixed the compound incorrectly and we had been giving her 5x the strength she was prescribed. She was getting an adult dose rather than a 2-year old dose. I was livid and scared that she would have problems. Thankfully, we learned that the main effect of an overdose is diarrhea (which she had Friday night), but other than that, there were no major effects. She is fine now. We have a new prescription and she likes it. It tastes like sweet vanilla. We know God was watching over her.

I'm glad Abby is okay! I don't know anything about compounding and how that works with prescriptions. Is this something that would be good to know as a future mama?

I love the new playful photos:)

Take care,

Heather
